Since I moved to Hawaii I’ve become so infatuated with the beauty, humbleness, and relaxed vibe island offers. The ‘Aloha’ lifestyle has definitely sparked something inside of me. It’s made me want to relax, better myself, embrace this amazing opportunity I’ve been given, and just be happier and more at peace. I started with yoga. I’ve always loved yoga and I get into spurts of consistent practice, which later dies down as I have to miss a couple classes in a row for whatever life reason I deem more important. What I’m learning though, from both my practice, and other sources I’ll discuss in a minute, is that nothing is a good enough reason for you to not do something you love. Or something that makes your life better, whether you like it or not.
Cue personal development, AKA self-help, books. Now, I just want to start off by saying you don’t have to be depressed, crazy, lonely, suicidal, or a combination to read self-help books, though those are some of the reasons one may seek them out. In fact, if the sheer idea of admitting to yourself or others that you’re interested in a self-help book sends you spiraling into a panic, you should probably give them a try.
Self-help books are nothing more than an affordable way to better your life. In my opinion, everyone in the world, no matter how “happy” they may be, or seem, can benefit from these books. They allow you to take a closer look at yourself, in a controlled environment, and offer you tools to evaluate your life, the direction you want to go, and give you suggestions about the best way to relieve stress, anxiety, depression, negative thinking, and pretty much any other negative mental aspects you find yourself coping with on the daily.
Further, these books can give you insight into how to better not only your psyche, but your physical self. The authors of these books are truly inspirational people who want to share their “enlightenment” (or whatever you’d like to call it) with the rest of us less fortunate peeps.
Over the next couple of weeks I will begin releasing reviews on some of the books I’ve been reading, but for now, here are some cheap, easy to find ones that I highly recommend. Most of these I actually found in the book section at Urban Outfitters and ordered cheaper off amazon (see, what could be more basic & fitting-in-esc than Urban Outfitters??) Surely, these books will make you more hip rather than outside the norm!
Before I give you the list and let you guys get back to life, I just want you to know that I am sharing this information only because it is honestly changing me and my life so much, in positive ways I never felt possible. I am becoming more and more at peace everyday and it’s just truly amazing, so please do not hesitate to message me with any questions or concerns you may have about taking this step towards a better life.
Most of these books are available on Amazon audio as well if you prefer to listen to them that way! I just like having a book in my hands that I can mark up and refer back to easily!
Okay, let’s get to it!
1. ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’ – By Mark Manson
If you like a straight to the point, no fluff, no BS, kick in the booty book – This one is for you! This is a great one for all my guys out there!
2. ‘Zen – Art of Happiness’ – By Chris Prentiss
*Easiest & quickest read* Another great one for both men & women! This was my first gateway book into mindfulness! I have given my personal book to so many different people to borrow over the years!
3. ‘Declutter your Mind – How to stop worrying, relieve anxiety, and eliminate negative thinking’ – By Scott Barrie Davenport

Erase your judgements, be open to letting these books help you, and just give it a try! Worse case, you can tell people you wasted $9 because some self-help booking reading psycho blogger told you to!
4. ‘‘You are a Badass – How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life’ – By Jen Sincero
*Most wide-ranging and pop-culture-ish*
5. ‘Girl Wash Your Face’ – By Rachel Hollis
This book is great for you ladies who are hesitant to reach your full potential and get what you want in life.
